My name is Alejandra Gutierrez

Greetings, Santa Barbara! I am Alejandra Gutierrez, and with great enthusiasm I seek your support for re-election as your advocate for District 1 on the Santa Barbara City Council. As a proud Local of our vibrant city. I carry within me the heart of our community as a first-generation, lifelong Santa Barbara resident. With a firm connection to Santa Barbara, I am determined, in my dedication, to uplifting the voices and addressing the concerns of our diversified neighborhoods. Together, let's build on our mission to create a future with opportunity and prosperity for each member of our city.

My Priorities

Housing

In Santa Barbara, the challenge of housing affordability is undeniable. The demand for housing is soaring while the supply remains limited; and stagnant leaving multi-generational families and essential workers struggling to find homes they can cal their own.

That's why I'm rolling up my sleeves and advocating for solutions. I'm actively fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors to bolster the availability of affordable, safe, and secure housing options. Together, we can ensure that every community member, from hardworking families to dedicated essential workers, has access to housing that they can afford and thrive within..

Education

Our local youth face growing challenges, with education funding cuts and parents stretched thin by long work hours to make ends meet. These obstacles leave our young ones vulnerable and in need of support..

I'm committed to establishing a Youth & Family Resource Center. This center will offer vital after-school programs and services, providing a haven for our youth and empowering them to pursue higher education. As a community let's invest in our future by giving our youth the resources and opportunities they deserve to thrive.

Additionally it will be an educational resource center for parents and families seeking to improve their lives within the community.

Unhoused
Santa Barbara Population

There needs to be a clear plan to efficiently allocate the resources we provide to our unhoused population . The real issue isn't the lack of resources, but rather resource management.

I would like to establish a 7 year program in collaboration with. the city and community partners. In this plan we will aim to find, and further invest in the resources that best aid in rehabilitating and rehousing our unhoused population.

The implementation of a Navigation Center, which I advocated for in my term, is one step in the right direction to make resources more accessible. This center serves as a wrap-around hub and ensures that essential services like mental health and drug/alcohol rehabilitation counseling become integrated into every housing reintegration program. By prioritizing. effective management and comprehensive care, we can empower and uplift our unhoused population.

State
Street + Milpas Corridor

Both State Street and the Milpas corridor were impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The State Street closure has now exceeded its original intention.

To bring State Street back to life, we need to partially reopen it.

I intend on proposing a plan that will introduce a shuttle or other form of transportation that services State Street from top to bottom, and increase accessibility.

I plan to duplicate the Community Benefit Improvement District in District 1 that creates a partnership with the city. This allows for an increase of funding to bring extra services to the commercial area. Examples range from an increase in street sweeping, city ambassadors, increased foot traffic, and funding for community events.

Community Outreach

The expanding reach of government affects us all, yet there still remains a gap in local government officials immersing themselves within the community.

I am dedicated to fostering community engagement and ensuring transparency in local governance.

I have voted in support for the implementation of Vision 2030 which uplifts community voices and cooperation through partnerships with city departments and outside organizations.

By facilitating accessible outreach initiatives, we can empower every community member with the knowledge they need to actively participate in the decisions that shape their lives and livelihoods. Let's bridge the gap between government and the people it serves, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard and valued.

Fiscal Responsibility

The City of Santa Barbara remains impacted with a disheartening $7 million deficit.

I advocate for responsible fiscal policies prioritizing our community's well being over political interests. Let's steer clear of partisan agendas and focus on realistic solutions that safeguard our city's financial health and serve the best interests of all residents.

About District 1

In Santa Barbara, our city is divided into six neighborhood districts. Each district has its own representative on the City Council, which has seven seats in total; six for council  members and one for the mayor, all of who speak on behalf of the city.

Composed of several neighborhoods, District 1 represents the following sectors: the Eastside, Lower Downtown, the Funk Zone, and the Waterfront. It's where you'll find a viably residential and commercial areas and many hardworking families.

Decisions made by the City Council directly affect the individuals and families living and working in District 1, so it's crucial to have strong representation for our community.
